HERRIMAN CITY MUNICIPAL WATER DEPARTMENT

Don't Get Caught with Exposed Pipes

Winter is here and so is the cold weather. Frozen or burst water pipes can create an unpleasant emergency and waste a lot of water. Take a few precautions to prevent frozen pipes:

  • Locate your master shutoff valve and make sure it's working properly.
  • Disconnect outdoor hoses.
  • Insulate pipes or faucets in unheated areas such as a garage or cold crawl space under the house. Wrap the water pipes before temperatures plummet.
  • Seal off access doors, air vents and cracks. Winter winds whistling through openings can quickly freeze exposed water pipes.

Even if you have taken precautions, once in a while pipes still freeze. It is recommended that you call a plumber if you are not experienced with home repair work. There is significant risk of injury or property damage from inexperienced efforts to thaw pipes.

Blackridge Reservoir

Blackridge Reservoir will be located between Rosecrest Plat P and Plat R. This is a secondary irrigation pond that is anticipated to be complete May 2008. The reservoir will be supplied by a 30" transmission line from a booster pump station from the Welby-Jacob canal. The reservoir will be shared with Riverton and Herriman for secondary water purposes. The 9 acre reservoir will hold 62 acre-feet of water.

After the reservoir is complete; restrooms, a fish cleaning station and a sandy beach will be something residence can look forward to enjoying.

It is illegal to use the construction water for watering landscaping. Prior to installing landscaping the meter must be set in your name.

Cancel Your Service

Contact Herriman City Offices to cancel your service after you have sold your home. Herriman City Municipal Water Department will read the meter for a final billing. The new owners then have ten days to transfer the service.

Billing Information

Herriman City Municipal Water is on a once per month billing cycle. We read meters at the beginning of each month for the previous month's usage. Bills are mailed as close to the 20th as possible.

We are in the process of upgrading older meters to a radio read meter. Over the next few years as we transition, those customers who have older style meters will be billed for a minimum monthly usage during the winter months. This is due to the difficulty in manually reading meters in the winter. The spring read will correct the minimum bill to reflect actual usage. Those customers who have the newer style meter (you can tell by the disc shaped radio antenna on the lid of the meter box) will be billed for actual monthly usage all year.

Payments are due on the 10th of every month. If a bill is over 60 days past due, we will send out a past due / delinquent notice. Payment must be made by the date listed on the notice to avoid disconnection.

Should water service be disconnected, the entire unpaid balance must be paid in full along with a $75 reconnect fee prior to restoring service.

In the event that the water service has been disconnected, any tampering with the meter or setter may result with the homeowner being fined.

The goal of Herriman City Municipal Water Department is to deliver clean, safe, drinking water to our customers that:

  • Meets all national and state purity standards
  • Supports normal domestic and commercial uses
  • Ensures adequate fire protection

Sprinkler System Protection

Irrigation systems make watering lawns and gardens easier and save your time. But, they require special equipment to prevent contaminated water from siphoning back (BACKFLOW) into home plumbing and City water systems. Irrigation systems not protected by approved back-flow prevention assemblies endanger the health of a household, neighborhoods, and the whole community.

All Irrigation systems - new or existing - must be equipped with a State Health Department approved backflow prevention assembly. Only properly installed, State approved backflow prevention assemblies meet the current Plumbing Code and provide protection for the health of your family and neighbors. These assemblies require yearly testing to insure they are working properly, We at Herriman City can give you a free list of State certified testers.
